What is an offline installer?

1: When an online connection is accessible, an application like Lumen may be downloaded to your computer and installed when an internet connection is no longer available, thanks to an offline installation. In other words, you may finish the installation without having an online connection.
2: There is a separate offline installation on the Lumen download page for Windows if you use Windows. There isn't a different installer for Mac OS; you may use the same installer for both online and offline installation.

Advantages of an offline installer

1: The standalone installation of Lumen is the offline installer. Therefore, you won't need to download anything more for installation other than the original installation file.
2: Lumen may be installed on a PC in the field when there is no internet connectivity.
3: The offline installer may be advantageous if your internet connection is sluggish since installation is quicker.
4: The installation of Lumen may be stopped and started whenever you choose.

Introduction

The Microsoft® Web Platform is a powerful set of tools, servers, and technologiesoptimized for building and hosting next-generation Web applications and solutions. At the base of the Microsoft Web Platform is Windows Server® 2008, Windows Server® 2008 R2, or another Windows Server® operating system version. Windows Server 2008 R2 comes with Internet Information Services 7.5 (IIS 7.5), a Web server and security-enhanced platform for developing and reliably hosting Web applications and services. Windows Server 2008 comes with IIS 7.0. IIS 7.0 and 7.5 (together known as IIS 7) include a componentized architecture for greater flexibility and control. IIS 7 and above also provides simplified management and powerful diagnostic and troubleshooting capabilities. IIS Manager extensions make it easy to administer local and remote Web servers.

IIS 7 and above, together with the Microsoft® .NET Framework 3.0, provides a comprehensive platform for building applications. Additionally, IIS plays a central role in unifying the Microsoft Web platform technologies—Microsoft® ASP.NET, Windows® Communication Foundation (WCF) Web services, and Windows® SharePoint® Services.

This article describes general procedures for installing Windows Server 2008 or Windows Server 2008 R2; links for more detailed information can be found throughout the article. After installing Windows Server 2008 or Windows Server 2008 R2, you will need to install IIS.

Installing Windows Server 2008 is pretty straightforward and is very much like installing Windows Vista, but I thought I’d list the necessary steps here for additional information. For those of you who have never installed Vista before, the entire installation process is different than it used to be in previous Microsoft operating systems, and notably much easier to perform.

Using Vista’s installation routine is a major benefit, especially for a server OS. Administrators can partition the system’s hard drives during setup. More importantly, they can install the necessary AHCI or RAID storage drivers from a CD/DVD or even a USB thumb drive. Thus, error-prone floppies can finally be sent to the garbage bin.

Note: Windows Server 2008 can also be installed as a Server Core installation, which is a cut-down version of Windows without the Windows Explorer GUI. Because you don’t have the Windows Explorer to provide the GUI interface that you are used to, you configure everything through the command line interface or remotely using a Microsoft Management Console (MMC). The Server Core can be used for dedicated machines with basic roles such as Domain controller/Active Directory Domain Services, DNS Server, DHCP Server, file server, print server, Windows Media Server, IIS 7 web server and Windows Server Virtualization virtual server. For Server Core installations please see my “Installing Windows Server 2008 Core” article.Imagine for a minute that your boss came in one day, gave you a Foxit DVD and said that everyone in your organization needs to get that DPF software that’s on this DVD installed today.

You think, well that’s great but are you sure you want all 500 people to get the software today?

That’s almost impossible, isn’t it? There isn’t enough time for you to walk around with the DVD and install it 500 times.

Sure there is! But you won’t be walking around with the DVD in your hand, that’s for sure.

The solution I’m going to show you today is quite simple, and much less time consuming

You are going to copy that software on a Shared Folder on your network. Then, you’re going to create a Group Policy Object, aka GPO, (aren’t you happy you installed Active Directory?) that will take that software and install it on everyone’s machines.

Easy, huh? Of course it is and it is not going to take you days, I promise.

Microsoft has announced it is ending support for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 on Jan. 14, 2020. This means that computers and servers running these operating systems will no longer receive security updates after Jan. 14, leaving them vulnerable to hackers, malware, and viruses.

To protect against security risks, we ask that all Windows 7 users upgrade to supported operating system—such as Windows 10—before Jan. 14. Servers running Windows Server 2008 should also be upgraded to a supported operating system.

It is recommended, before you proceed with online installation you may want to disable your Internet firewall. In some cases the default firewall settings are set to reject all automatic or online installations such as the Java online installation. If the firewall is not configured appropriately it may stall the download/install operation of Java under certain conditions. Refer to your specific Internet firewall manual for instructions on how to disable your Internet Firewall.
